Drawing on CCTV video-footage, the Metropolitan Police Force for London frequently release images of suspects: photo-images of persons that detectives "would like to interview." These images are a terminal format of photography: made by a machine (or a robot if you prefer), of a person soon-after-or-during a criminal act. These screen-grabs are not like the "rogues gallery" of old, or the e-fit suspect portrait. The pictures are rife with the adrenalin of crime itself and the lack of resolution produces an ambiguity of time-and-place--men running across main roads, at night, dancing, in flight ... but not yet on the run.
